Moving away from home whether off to college or in means for a new atmosphere, the one thing that is usually always missed is "Mom's homecooking". Now you ask, "how does mom's homecooking taste?" and "what makes it so good?". For me, the taste of a homecooked meal is the taste you grew up with and the food you ate ever since you were a kid. Whether it was your grandma or your mom cooking it, the memory of the smell, look, and taste of it when you were a kid, is always stuck in your head. A homecooked meal was always a meal to welcome you after a tiring, stressful, long, or even fun day. The taste doesn't only effect your tastebuds, but in essence, it feeds your soul. My ideal homecooked meal from my mom would be Beef Nalaga(soup containing beef and a mix of vegetables like potatoes, carrots, bok choy, cabbage, green beans) because of the warmth the broth brings to your stomach after sipping it and the heaviness of the potatoes, carrots, and rice mashed up together on your plate/bowl just makes for a fulfilling and satisfying meal.
At family parties, we mix both Filipino and American food to satisfy everyones pallet. Not everyone in my family enjoys Filipino food (crazy right?) mainly because they became so accustomed to fastfood and different American chain restaurants.
A typical family party menu would be:
1.) Pasta (2 different dishes)
2.) Salad
3.) Chicken/Turkey
4.) Mashed Potatoes & gravy
5.) Lumpia
6.) Fish (fried, baked, grilled)
7.) Mechado (beef stew)
8.) Embotido (meat loaf)
9.) Lechon (Roast pig)
